A UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply ensures the supply of electricity. A UPS can also be considered as a kind of backup solution between the main power supply and the backup power supply from a generator. The batteries of the UPS take over the power supply between the power failure and the start of the generators. Usually, UPS's can supply power for at least half an hour - if the backup generators would not start automatically. A UPS also protects equipment from power surges and the consequences of other unwanted phenomena, such as micro-interruptions in the power supply, overvoltage, fluctuations in voltage and frequency, harmonic distortions and flickering.
