LCL boosts business cybersecurity and digital autonomy with Varity partnership
26-02-2026

Brussels, (26/02/2026) - LCL Data Centers today announces a strategic partnership with Dutch MSSP company Varity. Thanks to this alliance, LCL is strengthening the digital sovereignty of its customers while offering companies new opportunities to significantly improve their cybersecurity and cloud connectivity. The partnership with Varity will enable LCL Data Centers' customers to make their digital infrastructure invisible on the internet and to choose which operators and networks their data is sent through. ‘We cannot wait for governments to take action’, says Laurens van Reijen, CEO of LCL Data Centers. ‘At a time when cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important, we are taking the lead and helping companies to better protect their digital infrastructure and be more aware of where and how their data is sent.’

The collaboration with Varity builds on previous initiatives by LCL Data Centers, such as the partnership with the Australian company Megaport, which offers customers fast, secure and flexible access to more than a thousand data centres and leading cloud platforms worldwide. With Varity, LCL is now adding an extra layer of security. Varity is a Dutch Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) that assists organisations in designing, implementing and managing secure, scalable and future-proof IT infrastructures. The company specialises in network architecture, cybersecurity and cloud for critical business environments. Thanks to the collaboration with Varity, LCL customers can take their cybersecurity to the next level while gaining more control over their data flows.

What is invisible cannot be attacked

To make this extra layer of security a reality, LCL and Varity are focusing on a network architecture in which critical IT environments are no longer publicly visible. This is achieved through the SCION protocol (Scalability, Control and Isolation on Next-generation Networks), a solution developed to make data traffic more secure, transparent and controllable, which is already mandatory for banks and government agencies in Switzerland. Systems are thus completely shielded from the open internet and are only accessible via trusted connections. Cyber-attacks can therefore be blocked before they even begin.

‘By shielding systems from the public internet via SCION networks, companies effectively become invisible to hackers’, says Merijn Evertse, Technical Director at Varity. ‘Because SCION only allows traffic from pre-approved and verified paths, attackers can no longer scan, target or reach systems via the regular internet. This blocks cyber-attacks before they can even begin, because malicious parties simply no longer have a route to the company's systems.’

Cybersecurity and digital sovereignty as strategic autonomy

In addition to increased cyber security, organisations also gain more control over their data flows. Companies can consciously choose which operators their data runs through, for example by using only European connections for sensitive information. This keeps data within Europe and gives organisations more control over where their data is located and which regulations it is subject to.

This is particularly relevant for sectors that work with sensitive data, such as hospitals, healthcare institutions, government agencies, financial institutions or research centres.

‘Today, companies not only feel the threat of cyber-attacks, but also the pressure to keep their data under better control’, says Laurens van Reijen. ‘The call for digital sovereignty is growing louder due to the current geopolitical climate. This also makes our infrastructures critical, as evidenced by the various hacking cases in Belgium in recent months. Through this collaboration, we can help organisations to set up their infrastructure more securely and make conscious choices about digital dependency.’
