“Customers want flexibility without being tied to long contracts or rigid infrastructure”, says Mike Jauncey, Channel & Alliances Director Europe at Megaport. “They want the freedom to spin up a connection when they need it, scale bandwidth instantly, and pay only for what they need. That’s exactly the flexibility we bring.”
Founded in Brisbane (Australia) in 2013, Megaport has grown into one of the world’s leading Network as a Service (NaaS) providers, with presence in over 1000 data centers worldwide. Its platform allows enterprises to connect quickly and securely to a wide range of cloud service providers, carriers and partners, all through a simple portal or API.
Mike Jauncey: “We have one mission: to take the complexity and rigidity out of network connectivity. Our platform is software-defined: customers can log in, select the services they need, and activate connections within minutes. For LCL, that means its customers can instantly extend into our ecosystem and gain secure, private access to the major public clouds, as well as to hundreds of other connected data centers and service providers.”
“Flexibility is the key differentiator. We allow customers to start small and scale up (or down) at any time. You need 100 Mbps for testing today, and then 10 Gbps for production tomorrow? That’s just a few clicks. Another distinction is neutrality. We don’t lock customers into a specific location or cloud or service provider, but provide the tools to support the multi-cloud and expansion strategy that best fits their needs. For LCL’s ecosystem, that neutrality is a natural fit. Service providers and enterprise customers alike can use Megaport without risking vendor lock-in.”
“The strongest demand we’re seeing is around hybrid and multi-cloud. Very few enterprises rely on just one cloud provider. They want to combine AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle and others, sometimes for redundancy, sometimes for specific workloads. We make that possible from a single physical port. On top of that, we’re expanding virtual services such as our Cloud Router. That enables enterprises to connect clouds directly to each other without having to bring the traffic back through their own infrastructure. It reduces complexity, cuts costs, and boosts performance. Edge connectivity is also growing in importance. Data is being generated and consumed closer to the user, think AI applications, IoT or media streaming. Our platform is evolving to make sure customers can reach those edge locations with the same flexibility they expect from the cloud.”
“We have one mission: to take the complexity and rigidity out of network connectivity”
“AI is the obvious one. Training and running large models require enormous bandwidth and ultra-low latency. That places new demands on the network, and traditional fixed circuits can’t keep up with that pace of change. Another big trend is sovereignty: enterprises are more conscious about where their data sits, how it moves, and which jurisdictions it falls under. Finally, resilience and security remain perennial priorities. Every enterprise is asking: how can I keep my data flows safe and uninterrupted, no matter what happens? If you can reroute or scale instantly, you’re more resilient by design.”
“A pain point is speed of delivery. A customer might suddenly need additional bandwidth, a new cross-connect, or a backup route – and it needs to be operational immediately. Traditional processes are too slow for that. Add to that the complexity of today’s ecosystems: multi-cloud, multi-carrier, international expansion… those layers of choice can be overwhelming. Platforms like ours simplify the complexity into a single, easy-to-use interface. Service providers also face the challenge of capital intensity. Building and maintaining infrastructure is costly, and regulations are only becoming stricter. That makes partnerships with neutral players like LCL even more valuable.”
“The growth in data traffic is multiplying. Enterprises will need even more agile, scalable & secure connectivity. Our job is to make the platform richer: more locations, more services, more automation. But the principle remains the same: keep it simple, keep it flexible, and give customers full control. In collaboration with partners like LCL, we’ll continue to expand those capabilities in Belgium and across Europe to help enterprises adapt at the pace of technology.”
