AI (Artificial Intelligence or machine intelligence) is a complex technology that involves systems or machines mimicking human intelligence to perform tasks. Typically, AI applications analyze contextual interaction data in combination with historical data in real-time.

AI technology comes with a significant energy consumption and CO2 emission. AI models require hours of training to be performant and usable, and that requires a significant amount of CPU (processor), GPU (graphics processor), TPU (AI accelerator), and RAM (computer memory). An example of this is the BERT model, a machine learning model for natural language processing, which uses as much as 1,500 kWh of electricity in three days, which is 600 times more electricity than what our brains use in the same time.
