The Belgian cloud-as-a-service provider GIG Tech has chosen the LCL datacenter in Diegem as the cornerstone for the roll-out of its Whitesky offering in Europe. With Whitesky, GIG Tech is offering the first European white label cloud computing solution for integrators as wells as telecomms and service providers.

As a GIG Tech brand, Whitesky has been busy onboarding customers in Belgium and the Netherlands since the start of January and wants to be active throughout Europe in the long term. The white label cloud computing solution is aimed at integrators as well as telecomms and service providers. Thanks to the Whitesky formula, these companies can make their cloud environment public under their own name and organise it as they wish.

The Whitesky offering is also very easy and quick to install and manage, without heavy upfront investment or an entire IT team to keep it up and running. And since Whitesky uses GIG Tech's software stack, there is no vendor lock-in. In addition, customers pay via a "pay-as-you-go" system. In this way, they only pay for the services they actually use.

LCL as the cornerstone of the European datacenter strategy

GIG Tech is accommodating its Whitesky offering in existing European datacenters and consciously opting for a mix of larger (hyperscale) datacenters and smaller edge datacenters. The LCL datacenter in Diegem is the cornerstone of their strategy. It supports what GIG Tech itself wants to offer its customers. Integrators as well as telecomms and service providers can also be sure that their data is stored locally with Whitesky. Customers choose one of the locations themselves and have full control over their own data.

The network neutrality and large connectivity range at LCL were the first winning factor. The partnership between LCL and Equinix Fabric also makes a difference. This partnership allows companies in LCL's datacenter to choose their public cloud providers freely, and to scale easily and in real time via a portal. The fact that customers can manage this themselves gives them the necessary flexibility, and this is appreciated. It is certainly an advantage that Whitesky's customers do not have to go abroad for a direct connection with providers such as AWS or Azure. LCL's track record in terms of uptime and SLA guarantees also played a major role.

"We were really won over by the LCL offer," says Jeroen Van Langenhove, Managing Director of Whitesky, explaining the decision. "In addition, LCL is a very proactive datacenter player. They took the time to understand our business and to help us move forward. LCL can also be used as a back-up datacenter for data located in another European datacenter. We can scale quickly at LCL, which is important in our business."
